Chapter Spotlight: NEAAPOR

by Philip Brenner, 2016 NEAAPOR President, and, Jennifer Benz, 2016 NEAAPOR Councilor at Large
In the third year since re-initiating our chapter, the New England AAPOR executive council is thrilled to report an engaged and growing membership.

Programming Chair, M.J. Taylor, and Associate Programming Chair, Patrick Madden, were busy over the past year organizing four events.
  • In partnership with The Dana Farber Cancer Institute, New Frontiers in Health Data Collection featured a speaker from Crimson Hexagon who discussed leveraging social media to study public health.
  • Held at Brandeis University, the Election Postmortem featured four New England polling experts who broke down election polling results, discussed the impact of two historically unpopular candidates on the polls, and answered questions about polling and the 2016 presidential race.
  • At our Winter Mixer, a new event for 2017, members got to know each other over craft beer and hors d’oeuvres.
  • Co-sponsored with Emerson College, our Career Networking Event connected New England’s best and brightest survey research students and young professionals with employers in the region.
With all the chapter has to offer, it’s no surprise that our membership has grown, ending 2016 with nearly 100 members. NEAAPOR Secretary-Treasurer, Jessica LeBlanc, continues to ensure the chapter reserves can support current and future event programming.

Past President Gillian SteelFisher developed a chapter handbook that will be a key resource to ensure that future councils have the information needed to run the chapter efficiently and focus attention on programming and other benefits for our members.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the AAPOR Annual Conference in New Orleans!  Stop by the NEAAPOR table during the All-Chapter Reception to enter a raffle for New England gifts, grab some New England giveaways, and enjoy some New England hospitality!  (On second thought, we’ll borrow some Southern hospitality from our friends at SAPOR to go with the New England swag.)
