by Nora Cate Schaeffer, President
This year, the luxurious feeling that arrives in June that summer is long and full of possibility was fueled by the energy from Council’s June planning meeting. The summer is being spent working out details and laying the groundwork to implement those plans. For each AAPOR committee, those efforts involve identifying committee chairs, recruiting committee members, and drafting and gaining Council’s approval for a document describing the committee’s charge.

Check out this 88-second video I made! https://youtu.be/g_ahnNfXZA4 It shows you Atlanta and the downtown Hilton through my eyes from my recent site evaluation for the 75th annual conference. (Hint: don’t miss the ‘credit cookie’ at the end of the video.) Let me know what you think of our 2020 conference hotel and host city!
by Allyson Holbrook, Education Committee Chair
The AAPOR Short Course subcommittee is happy to announce that we are currently accepting short course proposals for the conference next year. If you are interested in teaching a short course, or if you have an idea for a short course that you would like to take, this link is for you.

by Allyson Holbrook, Education Committee Chair
AAPOR’s Education Committee is currently planning its 2020 webinar series; these webinars are widely attended by researchers, practitioners and students, and provide AAPOR members with an opportunity to learn about the latest public opinion and survey research practices without having to leave their desks! The success of the webinar series is contingent on having great presenters who are equipped to inform AAPOR members about the most up-to-date research methods.

We are also soliciting presenters for case study webinars. Do you work on a well-known study that every survey researcher should know about (e.g. ACS, CPS, GSS, NHIS, etc.)? If so, consider submitting a proposal.

If you are interested in leading an AAPOR webinar in 2020, please complete an online proposal.

by Emily Guskin, AAPOR Journalist Education Subcommittee Chair
The AAPOR Journalist Education Subcommittee is working on several exciting initiatives leading up to the 2020 election. Our goal is to ensure as many reporters as possible are comfortable covering polling accurately and we want to make them aware of the tools AAPOR has to help them.
This special issue of Public Opinion Quarterly features original research extending the work of Eleanor Singer, AAPOR president from 1987-88, and 1996 recipient of the AAPOR Award for Lifetime Achievement.
OUP has granted free access to a selection of five highly cited articles from recent years. These articles are just a sample of the impressive body of research from Public Opinion Quarterly.
by Valrie Horton, 2019 SAPOR President
SAPOR has had an amazing start to 2019! After completing our Annual conference in October 2018, the newly elected officers assumed their roles in January and have met monthly, sometimes more, in order to plan new initiatives for SAPOR members.
